It has been reported in different researches conducted in the last few years related to how cancer spreads, primarily in a research conducted in the Nature Communication issues of October 2012, they discovered an important clue related to as to why cancer cells spread in the body. It was discovered that it has to do with something known as adhesion or stickiness properties present in it. When there is an interaction between certain molecules and cells and the substance that holds them in place known as the extracellular matrix this then causes them to become unstuck at the original tumor site where the cancer started from at the first place, they become dislodged move on and then reattach themselves at a new site.
Researchers say that this discovery in particular is very important to this global problem this umber one disease which is spreading throughout the world known as cancer morality mainly due to metastatic tumors that grow from cells that have traveled from their source where they started to grow from to other parts of the body as the disease spreads. The research team from MIT said that finding a way to stop cancer cells from sticking to new sites could interfere with metastatic diseases and also halt the growth of the secondary tumors which take place.
It was reported in numerous researches that malignant cells are much nimbler than the nonmalignant ones, because the malignant cells can pass more easily through smaller gaps as well as applying a much greater force on their environment compared to the other cells. A professor and his team came to the conclusion after starting a catalogue of the physical and chemical features of cancerous cells with over a team of 100 to 200 scientists’ across the United States of America. We can see that a lot of research take place like Cancer research in the UK, has also grown so that more types of treatments and innovations can be designed and worked upon to help patients suffering from tumors and then cancer on a global scale.
The authors who wrote this catalogue and did the research believe that this help the oncologists to detect issues with patients early on thus it would prevent the spread of the disease to other parts of the body. Prof. Austin said “By bringing together different types of experimental expertise to systematically compare metastatic and non-metastatic cells, we have advanced our knowledge of how metastasis occurs.”
Furthermore, cancer basically takes place when the cells growth become uncontrollable and they do not die after performing their duty in fact they start to grow again, having this abnormal growth in them. Cancer occurs when a cell’s gene mutations make the cell unable to correct the DNA damage and unable to commit suicide which it normal has to do in normal circumstances. Carcinogens are a class of substances that are directly responsible for damaging the DNA of a person and promote or aid cancer to happen, and it happens due to intoxication from tobacco, radiation such as microwave radiation, use of technological gadgets like mobile phones, tablets, laptops, computers and many other devices and X- rays. When our bodies are exposed to these substances and these radiations it damages cells and affects their functionality to perform normally. Cancer can also be a result of a genetic predisposition that is inherited from the parents and it is possible to grow with this disease.
